As women, we are always looking for the next best thing to solve our health and beauty blues. We spend time asking friends, surfing the net for reviews, and spending countless dollars on whatever your local cosmetic rep suggests. But truth is, all advice isn’t good advice; there are some things you should avoid.
Douching to Feel Clean Growing up, some of us were taught to “clean out” our vaginal area by using a douche. A douche is a bottle filled with a mixture of water and vinegar. The substance is sprayed from a tube into the vagina. Women say it helps them feel fresh and rids them of foul odor, but douching can be harmful to the body. The vagina is self cleaning and has its own natural balance. When this balance is tampered with you can cause bacterial infection, pelvic inflammatory disease, and cervical cancer.
Using Vaseline as a Face Moisturizer Seems like every household has a tub of Vaseline. It is used for many things including moisturizing the face. Petroleum jelly is indeed hydrating but may not be beneficial for all skin types. It gives your skin intense moisture and seals it into the skin to prolong hydration. For an oily skin type it can appear more oily and cause breakouts. Dry skin is more fit for this product but don’t overuse it; your pores can clog.
Shaving Going Upward I’m sure whomever you’ve watched shave has started from the bottom, up. Shaving upward can cause ingrown hairs which can be painful and cause hyper pigmentation. Also, if you store your razor in the bathroom, you are at risk for infection if you cut yourself. Although shaving up gives you a closer shave, your skin will look its best if you change directions!
