Janet Jackson made an announcement on April 6th via Twitter, telling the world that the second leg of her “Unbreakable” tour will be delayed. The second leg of the tour was supposed to start in Las Vegas on May 14.
In the message she says:
“There has been a sudden change …. My husband and I are planning our family, so I am going to have to delay the tour.
“Please if you can try and understand it is important that I do this now. I have to rest up, doctor’s orders. But I have not forgotten about you. I will continue the tour as soon as I can.”
Janet isn’t the only celebrity to have waited so late in life to have children. With the help of fertility doctors, IVF procedures, and surrogacy, more and more women are having babies well into their 40s and even 50s.
- Halle Berry had her first child at 41 and her son at 47.
- Kelly Preston had her third child at 48.
- Mariah Carey had twins at 42.
- Tyra Banks was 42 when she used a surrogate to have a baby.
- Angela Bassett was 47 when she used a surrogate to have her twins.
Many people have something negative to say about women who wait until later in life. They feel like these women are being selfish by having their children in their 40s because there are risks usually associated with late pregnancies. However, people are living a lot longer and the medical advancements have made it so that these things aren’t as much of a problem.
To be honest, it doesn’t matter when these women or any other woman decides that she is in a place to have children. If they are able to provide a good life for their children, then why not?
What do you think? Should women in their 40s or even 50s be having children? Are they being selfish for wanting to have it all–a successful career, money in the bank, and a family? Share your opinions below.
