This second weekend of August unofficially belonged to Omarosa Manigault-Newman. The former White House aide is on a promotional tour to drum up sales for her tell-all book “Unhinged” and she was plastered in front of every news camera and show that let her on-CNN, MSNBC, NBC’s “Meet the Press”, morning news, evening–All Omarosa, all the time.
If this is her last 15 minutes of fame, Omarosa is not wasting a second of it. Not only is she telling all about her year long post as part of the Trump administration’s inner circle, but she’s got proof to back up some of her claims in the form of secret audio recordings. Tapes that Omarosa claims contain conversations plotting corruption and spitting out racial epithets. Portions of tapes of her firing and a phone conversation of Trump’s reaction have already aired.
When Omarosa wasn’t doing the talking, she was being talked about or in Trump’s case-tweeted about.
Damage control talking heads are saying Omarosa risked national security and may have violated laws by recording conversations in the situation room and in the Oval office. Oh please, Russia comprised our security two years ago. And the fact she Omarosa could slip recording devices in where they were not supposed to be shows how incompetent this administration is for allowing it to happen–again, in her favor.
Other spin doctors where also out trying to discredit Omarosa as a “back stabber”, “nasty” and evil, opportunistic hustler hyping drama to peddle books. All of which may be true, but none of it disproves that portions if not all of her book is also true.
By the time the President resorts to retorts of “wacky” and”lowlife”, it sounds like a pathetic middle schooler grappling for a comeback after just getting burned in front of the entire school.
This administration has dismissed too many Blacks as “low IQ“(Congresswoman Maxine Waters) and “dumb“(CNN Anchor Don Lemon and NBA’s LeBron James). Lemon responded on air “Referring to African Americans as dumb is one of the oldest canards of America’s racist past and present: that black people are of inferior intelligence. This president constantly denigrates people of color and women.”
But this time, Trump may have underestimated the Black woman he’s up against. She’s learned a lot of her shady, slick and despicable ways from Trump after working alongside him on reality shows “The Apprentice” and “Celebrity Apprentice”. And she probably had a lot more she learned from a life of being Black and wanting so desperately to belong.
Trump says Omarosa was not smart, but she outsmarted him, Ivanka, Jared Kushner, Kelly and others said to be on those recordings. When asked if she has more recordings, Omarosa said “Oh absolutely“. As to when and if she’ll release them, Omarosa told MSNBC, “I don’t know. I’m gonna watch to see…they’ve been threatening legal action to figure out how to stop me…I’m expecting that they’re going to retaliate, so I’m just gonna stand back and wait.”
Will all this nebulous bluster about “I’ve got tapes” sell books-PLENTY of them. Personally, I’d rather re-read Dr. Seuss’ Green Eggs and Ham before buying Omarosa’s book, but kudos to her. You have to admit she’s is playing this game for all it’s worth. She may get benched next week, but for now the ball is in her court.
