Olympic Dreams & Defeats
Just because you are good enough to make it to the Olympics, doesn’t mean you are sure win to bring home the gold in every category. Few would have doubted that Serena and Venus Williams could be beat on the tennis courts, but the duo suffered a first time ever Olympic defeat in the heat for doubles champion. The Williams sisters entered the games with an unblemished Olympic record of 15-0 and lost in the first round Sunday against the Czech Republic 6-3, 6-4 in straight sets.
The Rio Olympics had more defeating news in store, this time on the gymnasts ‘ mats where America’s sweetheart Gabby Douglas joined team members Simone Biles and Aly Raisman to take the top 3 spots of the trials. But only two can advance to the finals and Douglas in the number three spot was edged out by her team mate. Fans were already disappointed at what they felt was unfair judging giving Douglas a lower score than Raisman, but when social media chatter focused on the 20 year old’s hair instead of her amazing performance, the Gabby-gang stood up and shut it down:
Bye Bow Wow, Just Bye
Bow Wow (Shad Moss) has decided its time to retire from the rap game. The MC is dropping the mic after the release of his final studio album saying “retirement only means that it is time for a new adventure over 10 million sold. This the last one. THANK YOU”. After the ruckus he unleashed a week ago on social media with his declaration that he “can’t identify with Black issues”, (you can read that story here!) you think Bow Wow would have known better than to announce his retirement on Twitter. As expected, fans had something to say:
