As 2015 came to a close, it turned out to be an interesting month for Kendrick Lamar, we have to wonder what is in store for him in 2016.
President Obama had an interview with People magazine where he mentioned that Kendrick Lamar’s “How Much a Dollar Cost” was his favorite song for 2015.
Since then, it seems like Lamar’s popularity has increased significantly. He even appears in a PSA called “Pay it Forward” where he discusses how important having a mentor was in his growing up. He talks about how he wants to be able to be that source of inspiration and wisdom that he had growing up to kids today. He then goes on to talk about his meeting with President Obama to talk about similar ideas and solutions to common problems the youth has today.
This past week, he made a cameo appearance on the hit ABC sitcom, “Black-ish.” In the new promo for the show, the kids decide they need to make an “overnight viral sensation.” So, who do you think the kids enlist? That’s right, Kendrick Lamar! The video features several clips from the show, as well as Kendrick and the cast rapping to “Alright.” Oh, did we mention that “Black-ish” also happens to be the Obama family’s favorite television show of the previous year?
Also this past week, he appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” Whiel on the show, he debuted “Untitled 2.” Then Kanye West previewed a portion of a song the features Kendrick called “No More Parties in LA.” Why on the 9th, he made his “Austin City Limits” debut.
Maybe this year will be the year of Kendrick Lamar, after all, it’s less than two weeks in and he’s already got a full schedule. What do you hope to see from Kendrick this year?
