Fashion Lines, Fragrance Lines, Streaming Services: Are Stars Good Business People or Greedy

It seems like in order to be considered successful, you not only have to be rich, but you have to have your name attached to a slew of different products, charities, foundations, and who knows what else. Maybe these celebrities do it because they actually have a passion for something, but you have to wonder if they do it to rake in more paper. The latest people to jump on the product train is Beyonce and Kevin Hart.
Beyonce is releasing a new work out clothing line to add to her ever-growing empire. Ivy Park, the name of her activewear line, is described as:
“a new activewear and athleisure brand co-founded by Beyoncé, available in store and online on 14 April. Mixing high performance technical sportswear with fashion-led casualwear, Ivy Park empowers women through sport – no matter what your sporting ability or body shape. The collection centres on a core of sports staples: leggings in three rises, crop tops, drop arm tees, sweatshirts and technical jackets. All products can be mixed to create your personal sportswear uniform.”
Kevin Hart’s venture isn’t a clothing line, a sneaker, or some fragrance—he is teaming up with Lionsgate to create Laugh Out Loud, a video-on-demand service. The service, launching in the fall, will be available 24-7 and it will be the exclusive home for anything that Hart creates “outside his theatrical and live touring activities and include original series starring Hart — such as a hidden-camera premium original series in which Hart stars as an undercover Lyft driver.”
The streaming service will also feature content from stars on social media as well as up-and-coming comedians.
On one hand, you can’t blame these folks for wanting to secure their finances far into the future and their craft (be it acting, performing, singing, modeling… Whatever) no longer brings them in money, they’ve got to make it somewhere else. By having numerous products associated with your name, you are guaranteed to have money flooding in (as long as they are successful products of course). However, how much is too much money?? If you’ve already got millions upon millions in the bank, do you really need more?
