by TRN Writers,
Would you want to wake up with Oprah? CBS News execs may be banking on that thought. Several news outlets including The Hill are reporting that “CBS This Morning” is reportedly “begging” Oprah Winfrey to fill in for former co-host Charlie Rose, who was fired from the network after sexual harassment allegations.”
The article goes on to say the network is so desperate for the Queen of Daytime talk to fill how ever long or short she’s willing to anchor whether that’s one day…til Christmas…an hour even–that’s how bad they want her.
If Oprah did decide to join the morning team, she would be sharing the news desk alongside her lifelong bestie Gayle King and co-host Norah O’Donnell.
Page Six says the morning show is looking at a rotating roster of guest hosts choosing from talent already working at CBS. And that would include Winfrey who aside from running her OWN network also joined the magazine show “60 Minutes” last September. Page six says, “An insider said of the strategy to land Winfrey: “Unless you get a superstar [on the show], it’s always going to be, ‘Charlie’s missing.”
CBS officially declines to comment if Oprah is really their top contender to fill in, but if true it’s an interesting strategy. Winfrey’s network has had its some ups and downs with viewers, but one thing is certain–she is still a star who can bring in ratings.
What do you think….would you tune in every morning to catch Oprah? Or do you think her fuzzy, talk show style won’t fit in with a harder, daily news format?
