No one really had heard of Alicia Machado until Monday night’s President debate. Now, her name and her story are taking some of the steam out of Donald Trump’s candidacy. The former Miss Universe says she was the first winner to hold the title after Trump took over the pageant. And he did everything he could to make the beauty feel as if she were a beast. Machado says of Trump, “I was very scared of him. He’d yell at me all the time. He’d tell me, ‘You look ugly,’ or ‘You look fat.”
Machado was only 18 years old when she won a title that proclaimed her to be one of the most beautiful in the world—Miss Universe. She says not only did Trump constantly berate her as she picked up weight, but made her a laughing stock. Listen to Machado tell her own story.
Machado says she suffered such ridicule at the hands of Trump that it made her literally sick, ” After that episode, I was sick, anorexia and bulimia for five years…Over the past 20 years, I’ve gone to a lot of psychologists to combat this.” Machado says Trump is man who “bears many grudges and harbors a deep racism, and is convinced there are lesser human beings than him.”
When Hillary Clinton first mention Machado’s name, Trump seemed a bit ill himself demanding to know “Where did you find this?”, but not denying it ever happened. But it was already too late…shortly after the debate, Machado’s video was spreading like wildfire on Twitter, YouTube and all over the internet.
Trump has shown time and time again why he is unfit to be president, still uneducated White men and fringe extremist still support. He was already struggling to hang on to the female and Latino vote, but Machado may be his undoing with those two demographics.
I actually thought we had seen the worst of the candidates and that the election couldn’t get any uglier. A premature and erroneous concept that leads me to agree with something former Huffington Post editor in chief Arianna Huffington said, “the Trump novelty has curdled and congealed into something repellent and threatening — laying bare a disturbing aspect of American politics.”
Perhaps most disturbing is that Blacks are willing to support a man who has proven over and over again that he is a racist…first by disrespecting a sitting President and treating him like a slave who had to show his papers to the master. Then by insulting Latinos as “rapist”. Now we see his misogyny clearly in the way he treated Machado. The former Miss Venezuelan is now a U.S. citizen who says she will not be voting for Trump and no doubt many women will be standing with her.
