Hollywood All Shook Up Following Epic Quakes

Stars All Shook Up

“When They See Us” Director Ava DuVernay says she thought ‘Is this the big one?’ during last week’s quake that ravaged both the U.S. and Mexico.  Two separate quakes hit the West Coast Friday with the bigger one measuring 7.1 and reverberating as many as 4,000 aftershocks.

Scores of Californians flooded social media with images of the seismic activity that sent items flying off store shelves and left people scrambling for safety.

DuVernay and other celebs joined them online as the quake clearly left more than light fixtures and dishes rattled.

DuVernay said in her post… “Been living in Los Angeles all my life. That was the longest earthquake I’ve ever experienced…It was so long I thought for the first time ever ‘Is this the big one?’ Damn. Respect Mother Nature.

Another longtime Hollywood celeb also saw this event as one of the worse to hit California in recent memory.  LaToya Jackson posted, “This was absolutely horrible! #earthquakes I thought the ceiling was caving in. All the chandeliers were swinging. And kept hearing tons of crackling! 6.4 on this #4thofJuly2019 I’m still shaking it was a long one. #rollercoasters (sic)”

Police say many are now suffering from PTSD. The quakes have left some people so worried, they’ve been sleeping outside for fear of roofs crashing on top of them in the middle of the night.

Parts of California didn’t suffer the same intensity as areas closer to the epicenter, but everyone felt something.  Action star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson did seem as shaken up as many, but he still voiced concerned for those in the worst hit areas.

As if heeding The Rock’s advice to “Be…prepared”,  California’s governor worried if the Golden State is headed for the big one. Experts offer some comfort though for this week saying there is just a one percent chance that Californians will face another quake of this magnitude.  The more time passes the less chance of seeing another quake like the July 4th shake-up for quite some time.

Things to buy in case of a major earthquake

    1. water, lots of water
    2. non perishable foods
    3. generator
    4. earthquake prepare kit
    5. first aid kit
    6. solar powered flashlight
    7. emergency cash money, lots of money
    8. portable cell phone charger
    9. steel toe shoes for you and the whole family
    10. gas cans

The last two earthquakes were centered in Ridgecrest, a four hour drive from Los Angeles. If you live in LA and you think a major earthquake won’t hit, remember the date January 17th, 1994. That earthquake was so big, parts of the freeway collapsed.
