So in today’s episode of ‘Impeaching Trump’ we find the President sipping on a cup of poor-privileged-me tea and comparing his misfortune or comeuppance(depending on your view) to that of Black slaves.
Trump’s latest Twitter outburst is a doozy…
TRN highlighted the time of the post because it’s crucial-more on that in a moment. First reactions to the post have been fast, furious and harsh.
The outrageous post prompted a rare, public criticism from House Majority Whip James Clyburn saying on CNN, “I’m a product of the South. I know the history of that word. That is a word that we ought to be very, very careful about using.”
Clyburn is right, but Trump was very careful in his use of this word as he is with most words. “Lynching” is one of those words you use to trigger people. Trump was so careful with choosing this word because it will trigger Blacks and Whites, liberals and conservatives, media outlets and fake news—all at the same time and each with a different reason behind their reaction.
Some of Trump’s defined White Supremacist base will be amused or fully agree that their president is a victim of Democrats who are out to get him even though Trump has admitted repeatedly on camera that he is abusing his power of office by trying to dig up dirt on a political candidate by extorting a foreign ally, violating the emoluments clause by trying to profit from the presidency and tried to obstruct evidence by covering up one of his crimes.
Blacks who are still painfully burdened by the history of ancestors who were lynched sometimes as terrorism, sometimes as sport for racists will be triggered to outrage and disbelief by Trump’s careful use of the word lynching. While many responded on Twitter with outrage, perhaps the best response came from Rep Bobby Rush of Illinois…
Day-um….that is how you burn a grown a$$ man who insists on throwing a temper tantrum because for once he is being forced to face the consequences of his actions.
That brings us back to the timing of Trump’s daily tweet tantrum. He sent that one out bright and early, just in time for the morning meeting in most TV newsrooms. Another outlandish thing for him to try and control the news cycle and garner all the attention. It’s a distraction to keep your eyes and ears away from the real news in his impeachment inquiry…Tuesday’s testimony from diplomat Bill Taylor who was expected to bring the smoking gun…and he delivered.
According to the Guardian, “Bill Taylor, the acting US ambassador to Ukraine, reportedly told House impeachment investigators that the Trump White House attempted to tie investigations of the president’s political rivals to the country’s military aid.
Taylor prompted sighs and gasps when he read a lengthy 15-page opening statement, two of the sources said. Another person in the room said Taylor’s statement described ‘how pervasive the efforts were’ among Trump’s allies to convince Ukrainian officials to launch an investigation targeting former Vice President Joe Biden and another probe centering on a debunked conspiracy theory regarding the 2016 election.
Taylor also described the extent to which military assistance to Ukraine and a potential White House meeting with Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart were tied to those investigations, the source added.”
California Representative Ted Lieu called the testimony explosive from the man some describe as the most important witness thus far.
Meanwhile, Trump is somewhere in the nation’s capitol presumably ‘carefully’ searching for a better distraction…something more powerful than a trigger word like ‘lynching’. A couple of possible suggestions…’I’ and ‘Resign’ might get everybody’s attention at this point.
