LeBron’s Schooling a New Generation From the time he could walk and dribble a ball, LeBron’s been schooling his competition on the courts. His entire 14 year NBA career split between the Cleveland Cavs and Miami Heat has been one victory after another. Now the 3 x NBA champion is taking on a new challenge court-side, he’s ready to school future generations literally. The LeBron James Family Foundation is teaming up with Akron Ohio’s Public Schools to create a new “I Promise School”. The newest education center will focus on students at risk of falling behind their peers. The”I Promise Network programs have been operating in the Akron area for the past six years and have already helped more than 1100 grade school students. The new take on the program with LeBron’s proposal is to expand the curriculum and gear the program towards more STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) studies.
Here’s LeBron’s beaming with pride as he announced the new school proposal earlier this week.
The new school will open in the 2018 year and will target eligible students who are at risk in reading and require additional academic intervention to keep from falling behind.
Janet and Baby Strolling in the Park After news emerged over the weekend that Janet and billionaire husband Wassam Al Mana separated after five years of marriage, now the “That’s the Way Love Goes” singer is spotted for the second time in five days out in public. Janet, accompanied by another woman, was seen pushing a baby carriage through a London Park Wednesday. Though we don’t get a glimpse of Janet’s son Eissa who was born in January, we can see the new mom doting lovingly over the carriage. The two photos of Jackson this week is more than fans have seen of her in the last few years and may have been some of the source of her misery. The Daily Mail quotes sources who say “Janet felt hidden away from her family. She missed them.” Living in secret and totally away from the public eye that she grew up in was reportedly part of what led to the separation. Other sources say Janet was also having a difficult time accepting all the cultural differences of her husband’s Muslim life. But just looking at the pictures, Mom Janet seems to be adjusting fine at the moment and she looked at ease as she strolled around with her son.
Rapper Ludacris Lands New Gig as Host of “Fear Factor” Reboot It’s been a while since the “Southern Hospitality” and “What’s Your Fantasy” rapper has been on the top of the music charts especially since setting his sights on the big and little screen. He reprises his role as Tej Park in the “Fast and Furious” movie franchise’s latest installment “The Fate of the Furious” and will soon be returning to the small screen as host for an MTV reboot of “Fear Factor”. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “The new incarnation will flip the script on its targeted Generation Z audience and instead of gross-out challenges (like eating worms), will be more playful with the hope of providing a cathartic tension release along the way. The newly designed stunts are geared at tapping into visceral fears of today’s anxious youth — such as couch surfing at 300 feet and waterlogging personal cellphones.” THR says the show’s revival will draw more of its themed inspiration from urban legends scary movies and online videos. Ludacris says, “I am excited to kick off my partnership with MTV, starting with the relaunch of Fear Factor, which will be even more insane and ludicrous than what you remember“. “Fear Factor” originally ran on NBC for six years. It returns to the small screen May 30th on MTV.
For this week’s look at Black Hollywood, that’s a wrap!
