Fandom has its privileges and its pitfalls. Fans feast on every nugget of information about their favorite singers or actors served up by media sites (like TRN), social media and YouTube. Fans celebrate the joys of a new baby or new marriage.
The pitfalls for fans come when their fav celebrity couples are no longer “coupled”. Joining the roster of Hollywood celebs who are calling it quits-Laurence Fishburne(“Black-ish”) and his wife of 15 years Gina Torres (“Suits”).
Torres confirmed the break up with a statement saying “With heavy hearts, Laurence and I quietly separated and began the dissolution of our marriage in the early fall of last year …There are no bad guys here. Only a love story with a different ending than either one of us had expected.”
Wow, that’s a pretty eloquent way of saying we give up. Even though Torres said there were no “bad guys in the break up, fans immediately started looking for a bad guy(like who cheated on whom) and that leads us to a man identified by Pagesix as “mystery man”, “father of six from Utah” entrepreneur Kevin Wright.
Pagesix says, “We’re told that Torres met divorced entrepreneur Kevin Wright on the beach in Dana Point, Calif., in mid-August — and that they have since become a serious couple.” These steamy photos of Torres and her new man Wright were made public recently, but Pagesix says Torres and Wright got together after she and Fishburne split up.
Pagesix quotes a source close to Torres and her new man who said, “I think when you’ve been married a long time and you become single, you look for someone that has what your ex was missing. I think [Torres] finds in Kevin what she didn’t find in [Fishburne]. He’s the opposite of a Hollywood guy — he’s just a cowboy type. He’s an ‘I’m going to go ride my horse’ type of guy.”
This battle of the EX-es quickly turned into a battle of the sexes on Twitter…And yes, Kevin Hart and his pregnant wife, sex scandal, sex tape, social media apologies were all dragged into the Fishburne/Torres break up.

Hart was pretty much roasted on Twitter when his sex scandal news came out, but when news of Torres spread, Twitter users defended her. Granted all marital problems aren’t created equal, but most male commenters seem to think Torres was getting a pass and being treated delicately by fans. A cheating spouse is never the full story, there’s usually other nuances and backstory that lead up to the cheating. Though the media is saying that Torres started the new relationship after she and Fishburne called it quits, some male commenters seem to think that female cheaters are rooted for en masse while male cheaters are cussed and hated.
What do you think…is there a double standard when it comes to marital infidelity? Are women who cheat on their spouses held up as champions while male cheaters are cast down as the lowest of humanity?
