Could you imagine Mo’Nique playing Empire‘s feisty beauty Cookie instead of Taraji? Well apparently, that was the original plan.
There’s been a lot of revelations turning into all out drama with Mo’Nique and Lee Daniels. She has been labeled difficult, overbearing in Hollywood, and she claims that she has been “black-balled” because of it.
According to the Academy Award-winning actress, she was supposed to be the original ‘Cookie’ in the new hit show Empire, played by Taraji P. Henson. She says that director Lee Daniels went as far as to send her the script.
Mo’Nique said, “When he called me up, he offered me the role in Empire as Cookie, maybe four days had gone by, and I hadn’t heard anything. So I’m trying to reach out to him to say, what time do I need to be in? Where do I need to be? When he finally returned the call, he says listen, the executives at Fox said that you’re difficult.”
Empire Fan took their opposition to Mo’Nique as Cookie to twitter. They definitely had a lot to say:
Taraji responded in true ‘Cookie’ fashion without uttering one word. Instead, she retweeted her fans. There was more power in letting the public speak for her.
While Mo’Nique has proven stellar acting ability, Taraji has definitely molded the character Cookie. Maybe it’s because Taraji got to the role first, and for all we know, Mo’Nique would’ve shut the whole show down if she was given the chance. But for now, Taraji P. Henson seems to have been destined to play the ex-wife of Lucius Lyon. And according to the fans, it is rightfully so.
Do you think Monique could’ve played an exceptional Cookie?
