Nelly,  movie tycoon Harvey Weinstein, comedian/actor Bill Cosby, politicians, news anchors and reporters…allegations of sexual misconduct seem to permeate every industry, but especially industries were people make a lot of money or are perceived to wield a lot of power and influence.

It’s not always men who are the aggressors, (even Brittany Spears was accused of sexually harassing one of her dancers), but the majority of the offenders are unusually men.  Here are six celebs whose lives of fame led to infamy because of sex crime allegations.

#6 Kobe Bryant                                                                                A 19 year old hotel employee accused the former LA Lakers guard of raping her in 2003. Bryant was checked in at The Lodge and Spa at Cordillera hotel where the woman worked.. After his arrest on the sexual assault allegations, a tearful Bryant later confessed his affair before glaring news cameras and his wife Vanessa, but denied rape.  Before the case went to trial, the charges against Bryant were dismissed after he settled for an undisclosed amount with his accuser.

#5 Charlie Parker                                                                             The  virtuoso jazz musician was known one of the greatest saxophonists of all time. His skill on the alto and tenor sax took him from the high school band in his hometown of Kansas City to worldwide fame sharing the stage with the likes of Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis.  Parker’s battle with drugs and alcohol once caused him to set his hotel room ablaze and wander half-naked through the streets.  Parker was charged with indecent exposure and sent to the mental ward at the state jail.

#4 Tupac Shakur                                                                                   His music career took off in the early 90’s with the release of his debut album “2Pacalyse Now”. Three years later, the 23-year old rapper was sentenced to four years in prison for sexually abusing a fan.  The 19 year old woman says Tupac “took advantage of his stardom to abuse me and betray my trust”  when she was raped by the rapper and three of his friends.  The woman testified in a prior encounter with the rapper that in she engaged in consensual oral sex , but claimed when he invited her to his hotel room  a second night that he and his three friends “set upon me like animals.”  Tupac apologized to the victim,  but added “I’m not apologizing for a crime.”  Tupac was convicted of first-degree sexual abuse and pardoned after serving nine months.

#3 Ceelo Green                                                                                  His “Forget You!” revenge song helped him rule the charts in 2010 reaching Billboard’s No.2 slot.  But two years later, “The Lady Killer” singer was the man ladies wanted to kill following sexual battery charges against Green.  A woman accused Green of pumping her full of ecstasy during dinner and then taking her back to his hotel room. Green eventually pleaded no contest to a felony count of furnishing ecstasy and was sentenced to three years probation, 360 hours of community service and sent to Narcotics Anonymous meetings.

#2 Mike Tyson                                                                Heavyweight world champion, Iron Mike was the KO king defeating 26 of his first 28 fights by KO or TKO.  But the champ couldn’t beat rape charges brought against him in 1991.  18 year old Desiree Washington was the reigning Miss Black Rhode Island when she accused the boxing champion of raping her in his hotel room.  Tyson claimed that they had sex with Washington’s consent. The 25-year old Tyson was found guilty of rape and sentenced to six years behind bars.  He served three years of his sentence before being pardoned and is now registered as a sex offender. After jail, Tyson went back to the world of boxing earning reportedly $300 million in the ring.  By 2003, he declared bankruptcy and now the retired fighter is estimated to have a net worth of about $3 million.

#1 Michael Jackson                                                         The summer of ’93 brought an explosive heatwave that the shocked the world as the man hailed as the King of Pop was accused of sexually abusing a 13 year old boy.  The charges were leveled by the boy’s father, someone Jackson considered a friend.  News of the charges against one of the country’s most famous singers flowed 24/7 and the details painted a disturbing picture. Jackson reportedly had regular sleep overs with children who joined him at his Neverland ranch.  Jackson drowned in negative publicity as the media bathed the story in sensational headlines like “Peter Pan or Pervert”. A court cleared Jackson of  criminal child molestation  charges, but the families then sued him in civil court.  The father who started the media blitz was later connected to trying to extort money from Jackson.
