Some little old lady probably turned off the TV after the State of the Union address on Tuesday night, bolted her doors and sat in the dark in total fear that MS 13 gang members are coming for her.
The MS 13 gang was reportedly among the top three of roughly 4.5 million tweets following Trump’s SOTU. The other two top tweets being “We Stand for the National Anthem” and Immigration Reform. You can see the theme that outraged some Black lawmakers like California Senator Kamala Harris who criticized the President saying, “… it was wrong because that is not what leaders are supposed to do. We’re not supposed to convince the American public of policy because we make them afraid. And that is what this president apparently thinks he needs to do, and it is irresponsible.”
If you never heard of the MS 13 gang then you’re probably not a FOX News viewer where you will find fearmongering like this…
Wikipedia says “MS-13 (Mara Salvatrucha) is an international criminal gang that originated in Los Angeles, California, US in the 1980s. The gang later spread to many parts of the continental United States, Canada, Mexico, and Central America, and is active in urban and suburban areas…” At reportedly 70,000 strong, the gang is said to reach on the Atlantic coast from New York to North Carolina.
Trump used the grieving families of two girls reportedly killed by MS 13 gang members as a sobbing visual aid to lay a foundation of sympathy and fear to build his immigration reform pitch. While some some succumbed to the grief for the families, others where able to look pass the veneer of caring and see subtle signs of racism.
It’s so wild to me that Tr*mp is using MS13 and gang violence to take a stance against DACA and immigration.
SO wild. #SOTU

Damn all the immigrants coming across the border are MS-13?

Trump keeps bringing up MS-13 because he wants you to think that every immigrant is a murderous criminal.
That’s what white nationalist nativist racists believe.

Trump goes for the “immigrants are savage killers” gambit with a story about a killing by MS-13. Yep, we are well into the Stephen Miller portion of our evening. #SOTU

I don’t know about you but I’m vastly more concerned that a crazy “Christian” white dude from suburbia with an AR-15 with a bump-stock is going to kill me and my family at the supermarket than I am of MS-13. #SOTU

Here’s some perspective for that little old lady sitting alone scared that immigrants are coming for her. Gangs are nothing new, the names may change, the colors they fly may change, the color of their skin may change, but they have terrorized as long as there has a country. The Rascals, The 18th Street Gang, Hoover Boyz, Latin Kings, Crips, Bloods, some motorcycle clubs Sombra Negra have infiltrated our cities and suburbs with drugs, prostitution, racketeering and too many crimes to list. Criminal investigators estimate there are more than 33, 000 gangs in this country .Are they dangerous? Yes, but are they any more dangerous than White Supremacists, Neo Nazis, the Russians or North Korea?
A Japanese proverb says fear is only as deep as the mind allows. Don’t allow news reports and carefully crafted political speeches to pierce into you mind and may you fear an enemy you may never see.
What did you think of the SOTU address? Did it leave you fearful or did you walk away hopeful?
