Nine More Women Accuse Russell Simmons of Rape and Sexual Misconduct

At first it was a slow trickle of women making accusations of sexual assault against music mogul Russell Simmons, but now there is a steady stream of women coming forward with new tales of horror.

Wednesday, USA Today shared in an article, ” four new women detailed a pattern of alleged violent sexual behavior by Simmons, 60, disclosing incidents from 1988 to 2014.

USA Today was quoting from a story that broke in the NY Times earlier that day in which three women gave the sordid details behind what they allege was rape at the hands of Simmons.  The ink was barely dry on the NY Times story when a second major newspaper, The Los Angeles Times dropped another bomb that an additional  five women  say they were also victims of Simmons’ sexual misconduct.

The NY Times reports that Drew Dixon says she finally landed her dream job  as an executive in 1995 at Def Jam Recordings–the label that Simmons co-founded. Dixon says she was 24 and the joy of her once in a life opportunity soon crumbled under the pressure of “prolonged and aggressive sexual harassment by her direct supervisor, Russell Simmons.”  Dixon told the NYTimes, “On work calls, he would talk graphically how she aroused him…He regularly exposed his erect penis to her.  Late that year, Mr. Simmons raped her in his downtown Manhattan apartment, Ms. Dixon said.  She quit Def Jam soon after…I was broken”, she said.”

A second accuser, singer Tina Baker, described similar aggressive behavior when Simmons was her manager in the early 90s.  Baker told the NY Times,  “The second he agreed to work with me, my budget increased, the label was paying more attention to me” Ms. Baker recalled. But after the assault, she said, “I went into oblivion.”

Music journalist Toni Sallie says she dated Simmons a few times in 1987, but realized they weren’t a romatic match and opted to stay cordial instead.  It was under this cordial friendship that Sallie claims she was invited to Simmons home for a party, but arrived to find no other guests.  Sallie says Simmons offered to give her a tour of the apartment which eventually led to the bedroom where she told the NYT, “He pushed me on the bed and jumped on top of me, and physically attacked me,”she said. We were fighting. I said no. He raped her, she said.

According to the Times, all three women confided in family, friends, colleagues or officials at the time of the alleged rapes. Simmons through an attorney denies ever raping any of the women and says as he did with the first accuser to come forward, Keri Claussen Khalighi, that sex was consensual.   Another allegation was made by singer Sherri Hines who says she was only 17 or 18 when Simmons raped her.

Simmons said in a statement through his lawyer that he “vehemently” denies “These horrific accusations [that] have shocked me to my core, and all of my relations have been consensual.

Simmons is sliding down the same kind of slippery slope the world watch Bill Cosby fall of.  That scenario also started as a snowball  of one of two women then expanded into an avalanche of accusers that swallowed Cosby’s career.  Have we heard from all his accusers or are there more women waiting in the wings to come out against Simmons?  Will all Simmons’ accomplishments be stripped from him and his life left in tatters with his name the butt of every comedian’s joke?

What do you think…who do you believe?
