Madam President Oprah? Nothing like the daily discourse over how much the current president is disliked to make the opposing party start fishing for potential candidates in 2020. When Oprah Winfrey recently was asked during an interview on Bloomberg TV’s “David Rubstein’s :Peer-to-Peer Conversations” if she would ever put in a presidential bid, Oprah said, “I actually never thought that that was — I never considered the conversation even a possibility. I just thought, oh, oh,” That was enough to set the political world ablaze with the possibility. Winfrey also soundly dismissed the notion in the same interview adding, “No, that won’t be happening, but I mean, I did used to think, well gee, you had to know so much more than I thought you had to know.” Winfrey’s best gal pal CBS’s Gayle King also shot down rumors saying Oprah was only joking when talking about the possibility of actually running. Oprah’s not the only celeb name that already been tossed out for 2020—rapper Kanye, actor and rapper Will Smith, actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and comedian Chris Rock are among the growing list of names of potential celeb candidates. Even former First Lady Michelle Obama’s name has come up, but it looks like the hunt is still on to find a female candidate with as much public appeal as Michelle or Oprah.Too bad too since fans already started coming up with Oprah 2020 sweatshirts.
“Yes The Obamas Can” And They Did! Eight years as the Commander in Chief probably gave former president Barack Obama enough stories to fill several volumes of books. And we’ll be able to read at least a few of those books. Obama and wife Michelle have reportedly inked a deal with Penguin Random House for $60 million dollars. The deal is said to guarantee that the couple will write more than book and that the publisher will donate more than a million books to nonprofit organizations that provide books for disadvantaged children. A Penguin Random House spokesperson says of the deal, “We are absolutely thrilled to continue our publishing partnership with President and Mrs. Obama. With their words and their leadership, they changed the world, and every day, with the books we publish at Penguin Random House, we strive to do the same. Now, we are very much looking forward to working together with President and Mrs. Obama to make each of their books global publishing events of unprecedented scope and significance.” Both the former president and first lady are already published authors with Mr. Obama having penned three best-sellers including “The Audacity of Hope” and “Of Thee I Sing”.
For this week’s look at celebrity life, that’s a wrap!
