A King’s Ransom for Prince’s Heirs Music icon Prince was laid to rest three years ago, but for the heirs grappling with his estimated $200 million to half a billion dollar estate–there is little time to rest.
The singer’s heirs include his sister and five half-siblings who are finding heavy is the head that wears the crown.
According to the DailyMail.com, “The Purple Rain” singer’s “heirs have paid $45M in legal fees and owe $31M in estate taxes three years after his death…” The article says much of the money paid out has been spent on legal filings and lawyers’ fees. Some of the heirs told StarTribune in March that “the lawyers paid to settle Prince’s estate are draining his bank accounts.” The article says three of Prince’s heirs have asked the courts to look into the allegations claiming that the law firm working for the court-appointed administrator of the singer’s estate, Comerica Bank, has received nearly $6 million dollars and earns a whopping $125k every month. Prince’s heirs are worried there will be little left by the time the lawyers finish alleging, “… Comerica has refused to permit Petitioners’ business representative, L. Londell McMillan, to attend Heir meetings and has refused to negotiate reasonable terms of non—disclosure agreement (“NDA”) related to McMillan. The exclusion of those who understood Prince’s business, as well as certain Heirs, is causing economic waste and irreparable harm to the Estate.”
Heirs allege the bank bungled plans to release 21 legacy albums from Prince’s Paisley Park vault which promises to bring in millions. Prince died three years ago after taking what was ruled an accidental overdose of Fentanyl.
