Reel Hollywood Legend Meshach Taylor Dies at 67

As time passes, so do some of Hollywood’s greatest stars.  The world mourns the loss of many Hollywood legends in 2014 alone, and Emmy-nominated actor Meshach Taylor has become one of them.

Taylor is best known for his role as Anthony Bouvier on the hit sitcom Designing Women. He was the only male in a group of four women working in a design firm based in Atlanta.

Taylor fought a year long battle with colorectal cancer, but he lost the battle on Saturday night. Friends and family surrounded him at his home in California as he made his transition.

The famed actor took advantage of many opportunities to hone his acting skills and to become a memorable face on television especially in the 80-90’s. In his early acting career, he was a member of Chicago’s Goodman Theatre and the Organic Theater Company.

Taylor has also received an Emmy award for his role in the Window to the World (WTTW) production of Huckleberry Fin He made his debut in Broadway when he played “Lumiere” in Beauty and the Beast, and he has appeared on children’s shows such as Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, and Hannah Montana.

Taylor’s family made a statement on Facebook to announce his passing:

“It is with love and gratitude that we sorrowfully announce that our darling, amazingly brilliant and dynamic, Meshach, the incredible father, husband, son and friend has begun his grand transition. Our friends who know and love us, please offer your prayers for his peace and blazing light as he ascends to the heavens. Those who need to call the family please do. Those who desire to post memories, we are open and graciously accepting all gestures of peace. Love, the Taylor Family”

They sat with Taylor from the moment he began to transition to the moment that he took his last breath.

Meshach Taylor was 67 years old.
