If you don’t know the work of Don Cheadle, you’ve probably been living under a rock over the past 2 decades. Actor-producer Don Cheadle is the epitome of talent, hard work and class. His amazing dramatic range was displayed in films Talk To Me, Hotel Rwanda and Captain Planet.
Currently, he is gearing up for another season of his hit show, House of Lies on Showtime with co-star, Kristen Bell.
Donald Frank Cheadle was born November 29, 1964 in Kansas City, Missouri. Doing plenty of moving around early in life with parents, Bettye and Donald Sr., brother Colin and sister Dawn, he ended up graduating high school in Denver, Colorado, after which he went on to graduate from the California Institute of the Arts where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts. With much encouragement from friends he auditioned for several roles and landed his first job on the hit show, Fame (1982). That role opened the doors for his next two roles in John Irvin’s Hamburger Hill (1987) and Dennis Hoper’s Colors (1988).
After getting his feet wet in a few films he received the golden opportunity that every actor dreams of. He was cast to worked with Academy Award winner Denzel Washington in the dramatic film, Devil In A Blue Dress (1995). This role earned Cheadle his first title of Best Supporting Actor by the Los Angeles Film Critics.
Cheadle has two children, Ayana Tai and Imani Cheadle with long-time girlfriend Bridgid Coulter, a film and television actress who’s worked with Laurence Fishburne, Martin Lawrence, and Loretta Devine.
With a still, very proactive career, stretching out to nearly 30 years, Cheadle has had the pleasure to share the big screen with several other incredible A-list actors and actresses. In 1998’s Out of Sight he played Maurice Miller in a movie about a career bank robber (George Clooney) whose first order of business after being released from prison is to kidnap the US Marshall (Jennifer Lopez) that helped put him there. Since the 90s, the Oscar nominee has worked with Brad Pitt, Mark Wahlberg, John Travolta, Cicely Tyson, Mekhi Phifer, and Halle Berry.
The Golden Globe Award winner, like most top actors in Hollywood, is no stranger to the small screen. Among his television work, he portrayed Sammy Davis, Jr. in HBO’s The Rat Pack. In that same year of 1998, he was honored by the CineVegas Film Festival and the Los Angeles Film Festival and received the ShoWest’s Male Star of the Year Award.
Now that the 49 year-old has played over 35 roles in just about every theatrical genre, from Marvel Comic Book action stories like Iron Man 2 (2010) and Iron Man 3 (2013), to powerful true stories being brought to life for the great good, like Hotel Rwanda (2004). One thing is clear, there are few characters that Cheadle has not portrayed. He’s currently in pre-production as both a producer and an actor to play jazz legend Miles Davis in the bio-film Miles Ahead and is also preparing for a new season of House of Lies to premiere in the Spring of 2015.
