In four days time, in two cities separated by hundreds of miles, two different police officers once again fired fatal shots at Black victims. Terence Crutcher was reportedly heading home from night school in Tulsa when his car broke down. On Tuesday, Charlotte police were looking for one suspect when they reportedly found Keith Lamont Scott and mistook the book family members say he was holding in his hand for a gun. Different circumstances, two different Black men, the same end result—dead.
As Charlotte N.C. revolted against the shooting in a fiery riot, others are disgusted and angry that it has happened again…but few seem surprised. As most watched both scenarios unfold in Tulsa and Charlotte, many Blacks are tired of seeing the videos displayed on their nightly news like a horrible rerun of a show that can only be describe as a true American Horror Story.
Rappers like T.I., Meek Mill and Questlove are speaking up on social media. T.I wrote on his IG post, “America continues to remind US this ain’t OUR country… It’s Theirs & they ain’t sharing it! Therefore….. It’s #USorELSE #RIPTerenceCrutcher”
Rapper Meek Mill was not so meek in voicing his opinion, he wrote, “I JUST SEEN A TERRORIST SURVIVE A SHOOTOUT WITH THE POLICE AFTER BLOWING SOME SHIT UP AND LATER ON THAT DAY A BLACK MAN SHOT DOWN FOR NO REASON AT ALL! “I NEVER BELIEVED IN AMERICA.
Mill wasn’t alone in his disgust…celebs like Steve Harvey and Questlove and others are also voicing their opposition:
Some have already voiced anger at President Obama’s silence on the latest shootings, but do we need to hear more political speeches about their sympathy for the victims’ families. The only speeches America needs to hear is what new policies and laws are being passed to stop the onslaught of police shootings. Until then, the only voices we need to keep hearing are those of the people letting country leaders know they are fed up and want change.
