Taraji Answers Quitting “Empire”Rumors & Director Lands “Last Thing He Wanted: Black Hollywood Wrap Up
by TRN Writers,
“Cookie” Crumbles Rumors about Her Leaving “Empire” You know you’re on a hit show when the rumor mill is always churning out some story every week about your life. That’s the situation for Taraji P. Henson whose name has been the buzz all month. Henson’s contract is up at the end of this year and she hadn’t signed earlier this month when FOX network execs were trying to lock down all the actors on that show. Henson’s hesitation caused a panic…those close to her said she was just milking the situation. But fans can relax, Henson says “I don’t know what this rumor is that I’m done after episode four… I have bills to pay… I love Chanel too much to walk away from a hit show Who is spreading that? Who walks away from that money?” Case closed, “Cookie” will still be there to drive the “Empire” when the show returns for the new TV fall season.
Dee Rees onboard for “The Last Thing He Wanted” Director Dee Rees has signed on to take the helm of Joan Didion’s political thriller “The Last Thing He Wanted.” The film will be based on the novel about a journalist who steps down from her job covering the 1984 Presidential to take care of her dad following the death of her mom. Stepping away from the high profiled and wild ride of the campaign, the main character is thrown into a more dangerous world investigating arms dealing that involves the U.S. government. Rees is excited to direct the film saying, “This work is one of my favorite Joan Didion novels and is a brilliant and layered piece of fiction. I am forever attracted to interesting, unexpected characters and Didion is one of the greatest masters of the form. I’m so excited to be able to interpret this literary masterpiece.” No details on when filming begins on the “The Last Thing He Wanted”, but you can check out Rees’ highly acclaimed “Mudbound” which hits Netflix this fall.
