“Stranger Fruit”-The Shooting that Birthed “Black Lives Matter” Movement The 2014 shooting of Michael Brown by police mobilized and polarized a nation. The 18 year old was unarmed when he was gunned down by police in Ferguson Missouri. Brown had been shot six times including two shots to the head as video by witnesses showed him with his hands up. His death sparked months of protest and rioting culminating in the creation of the “Black Lives Matter” movement after the police officer investigated in the murder was not indicted. The documentary has taken four years to create at the hands of Jason Pollock who according to entertainment news site Deadline re-edited the film “…to include information about the backlash of the doc itself and also to insert what they say is new evidence. The film put the St. Louis County prosecutor’s office under a microscope and also interviews Brown’s family members.” The doc will air on STARZ April 3. Octavia Spencer Joins Stellar Cast for “The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle” Robert Downey Jr. is taking off his “Iron Man” suit to suit up for a new adventure as the man who could talk with the animals. Downey shared on social media Tuesday all the stars who will joining him for the journey Octavia Spencer and Craig Robinson. The film is based on the 1920’s children ‘s book series and of course will star Downey in the title role of Dr. Dolittle. Downey’s tweet listed Spencer and Robinson joining the cast of actors on-board to voice work for the live action-animation hybrid film. According to Deadline.com, “Several studios chased this one hard”–no doubt banking on the rebranded children’s classic being a box office blow out. The little ones will have to wait a while to welcome Dr. Doolittle. The movie is expected to hit theaters April 12, 2019 and shooting has not gotten underway.
