Let the “Good Times” roll with “The Jeffersons”  In the 70’s, TV series like “The Jeffersons” and “Good Times” introduced many White audiences to Black families.  Though both shows did well in the ratings,  some critics found the sitcoms anything but funny because of the many negative “sterotypes” portrayed including actors like James Amos and Esther Rolle who quit the show “Good Times:.  Still, the show broke new ground in presenting Black families in primetime.  As “Good Times” the movie is still being developed, plans are now in the mix it seems to bring back another historic tv family–the Jeffersons.  Variety.com reports that Sony Pictures Television is looking to reboot several iconic 70 shows produced by Norman Lear and that includes “The Jefferson”.  The reboots are in early talks but the shows would be given a modern upgrades.  One possible change might involve the reboot of the show “One Day at a Time” and switching from a White family to a Latino family and another classic show is being discussed as a possible mini-series. Executives admit while the reboots are full of possibilities, they’re also “tricky for a lot of reasons” and so they are exploring as much as possible.  No word on a if any of the reboots have been greenlit thus far.

Cush Jumbo, Delroy Lindo Join “The Good Fight” When “The Good Wife”  closed the doors on the law firm of Lockhart/Gardner  last year, it may have wrapped up the story on Alicia Florrick (Julianna Marguiles), but there was still a lot of story to tell.  And so those stories will be told in a spin off series titled “The Good Fight”. CBS has just released its first teaser for the new series and it looks like some familiar faces will be back along with some new ones.  Cush Jumbo’s “Lucca Quinn” will be practicing law in a new firm that judging from the teaser is turning up the heat both in the courtroom and the bedroom. Veteran actor Delroy Lindo is one of the new faces who signs on as attorney “Robert Boserman” and will be giving Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski) a run for her money literally.  Also joining the spinoff will be Erica Tazel but little is known about the role she’ll be playing.  The new spin-off is set to premiere February 2017 on CBS…until then, here’s your first reel look at “The Good Fight”

Tina Turner “Simply the Best” Musical Legendary R&B/Rock superstar Tina Turner’s life story is headed to the stage as only music can tell it.  The queen of rock’s life will be re-imagined in a new production with the working title of “Tina: The Musical.  Acclaimed play write Katori Hall who brought us the story of ML King  in “The Mountaintop” is working on a script along with the director behind the hit musical “Mamma Mia!”.  Also involved in the creative process is the woman who lived it all, Tina Turner.   The “Private Dancer” and “What’s Love Got to Do With It” diva said, “We have been working on the musical for over a year now, and today I am delighted to be able to share our news as we begin the next chapter of our journey,”  No word on when “Tina: The Musical” will be ready for audiences.

For this week’s look at Black Hollywood, that’s a wrap.
