There has been a lot of talk about Tracy Morgan’s recovery after the tragic car accident and loss of his friend.
We know this has been an extreme emotional roller coaster for Tracy but we couldn’t help but wonder if this incident has extremely affected his bottom line. Morgan’s attorney Benedict Morelli released a statement about his client ‘struggling.’
“He’s still struggling, but he’s a fighter,” Morelli reported. “He’s had issues before that he’s fought through and he’s fighting hard. The interesting thing is at the beginning, the internet was saying he was dead, and then they said they amputated his leg. Now it’s coming out that he’s doing great — none of those things are true or accurate.”
Though Morelli did not mention that Tracy was struggling financially, it is safe to assume that Morgan is no longer working on set while in recovery and he may not be making the kind of money he was making before the incident.
There is a brief sense of relief in his lawyer’s words. However, Morgan indeed is still struggling. He has been in physical therapy for the past two months and coping with the loss of his good friend, fellow comedian James “Uncle Jimmy Mack” McNair.
A little over two months ago, Morgan and his friends were in a tragic motor vehicle accident that involved their limousine van being hit from behind by a Walmart truck on the New Jersey Turnpike. Morgan suffered from a broken leg and broken ribs. James McNair was killed, and the two other passengers suffered minor injuries.
Morgan’s lawyer Morelli filed a lawsuit against Walmart saying that they should have known that truck driver Kevin Roper had driven over 700 miles that night (adding up to a total of 13.5 hours on the road). The law states that truck drivers should not be on the road for longer than 11 hours.
Roper pleaded not guilty to vehicular manslaughter and auto assault charges.
Our prayers continue to go out to Tracy Morgan as well as the family of James McNair. Get better soon Tracy!
