Tisha Campbell (School Daze, House Party, Martin) revealed some of her dark past to empathize with a rape victim on camera for the first time ever on the Daily Helpline.
The fact that she has never told anyone about this may come to a shock to all of her fans. Normally, celebrities make the brave move to get it out in the open earlier in their career. Either that or we learn about it in a biography article of some sort. But here, using her secret as an effort to lift up the broken spirit of this victim was valiant.
The video starts in the middle of the discussion, in the midst of Campbell-Martin instilling in the victim the importance of victory.
“You can no longer be a victim. You have to be victorious at this point. And I’m not saying this to put you down or anything. What I’m saying is, he’s winning. You’re allowing him to win. You’re making it a conscious decision to harm yourself, and allow this person to still have dominion over your life. You can’t do that anymore.”
The victim subtly nods in agreement, like these words are something that she’s already heard before, and that’s when Campbell-Martin reaches in her dark, untapped past for the very first time:
“The reason why I can absolutely say this to you without judgment or anything else (and this is the first time that I’ve admitted this on camera in front of millions of national people) is that I too have been a victim of the same thing. When I was three, I was raped.”
She mentions to the victim that she blamed herself for a long time, and shares her strength in finding forgiveness and accepting that she did nothing wrong. “It’s a heinous crime,” she added.
I believe that her message to this victim is destined to help the lives of millions of rape victims world-wide. Thank you, Tisha Campbell-Martin. Your story will be the inspiration of many upcoming and strong individuals.
