Ah the 90s… Looking at television sitcoms today, they lack a certain appeal that 90s sitcoms had and one of my personal favorites was Moesha. It was relatable, funny, and it kind of felt like The Cosby Show, but for the 90s generation.
Let’s take a look at a few of the stars on the show and see what they are up to now.
Moesha Mitchell – Brandy Norwood
Brandy already hadThe singer/actress has been in the entertainment industry for two decades and she was a co-star on BET’s The Game, which aired its final episode a on August 5th, 2015. She is now on another BET sitcom, Zoe Ever After and is heading to Britain to go on tour, where she will probably perform new music, like her newest blues-inspired tune, Beggin & Pleadin.
Kim Parker – Countess Vaughn
Countess has been in the acting game for a while and she’s played many different roles; however, none of them allowed her to show off her sexier side. That is, until now. The actress has always been known for being a plus sized woman, but now that she is engaged and is losing weight, it would appear that that she is losing her clothing as well. Hey, whether you love it or hate it, at least she’s got the confidence to do it!
Niecy Jackson – Shar Jackson
After Moesha ended, Shar kind of fell off the radar. Until her fiancé, Kevin Federline, dumped her to marry Britney Spears. Shar has appeared on Celebrity Fit Club on VH1 back in 2010 and now, she is on Lifetime’s The Mother/Daughter Project which is like a therapy reality show for mothers and daughters.
Myles Mitchell – Marcus T. Paulk
Moesha’s annoyingly cute little brother, Myles, is all grown up and has had a bit of legal trouble back in 2015. According to TMZ, he was partying at a Super Bowl party in Arizona and he was caught early morning by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s department where he blew a .109 and had a bag of pot on him. He was also arrested in 2013 for domestic violence where he allegedly kicked and punched his ex-girlfriend. He avoided jail time with that because he cut a deal with the police department.
Dee Mitchell – Sheryl Lee Ralph
Sheryl founded the DIVA Foundation and partners with Better Brothers Los Angeles where they both believe that “a healthy black community – one where individuals are allowed to live their truth free of shame and stigma, and are recognized as equal and rightful members of the community – is a critical piece in the fight to also end HIV/AIDS.” She continued acting and has appeared in many television shows through the years.
Frank Mitchell – William Allen Young
With plenty of television credits under his belt, William continued to appear on numerous television shows after the end of Moesha. He currently plays another dad, Harry Wentz on the Disney Channel’s Good Luck Charlie.
Sadly, several of the cast members are no longer with us…
Yvette Wilson who played quick-witted Andell Wilkerson passed away in 2012 after a long battle with cervical cancer. She was 48 years old.
Lamont Bentley played Moesha’s best friend and on/off boyfriend Hakeem Campbell. When “Moesha” was suddenly canceled, Bentley reprised his character on the spin-off sitcom “The Parkers” with co-star Vaughn and starring M’oNique. In 2005, Bently was driving near LA when he was killed in a single-car accident . Witnesses to the accident said Bentley’s vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed towards a highway off ramp and ran a stop a stop sign. His car then went through a chain-link fence and finally rolled down an embankment. Bentley was thrown from the vehicle into traffic where five cars reportedly struck him. Bentley left behind two daughters.
