Let’s hope reggae artist Shaggy is getting some residual coin as everybody on Capitol Hill is singing his 2000 hit “It Wasn’t Me”.
Americans were still trying to digest the bombshells from that slayer of presidents journalist/author Bob Woodward’s book Fear, when here comes the New York Times with another bomb and this one went nuclear.
In an Op Ed Opinion piece, the NYT did something rarely done. It ran an anonymous letter from a person verified as a senior official in the Trump Whitehouse who co-signed not only claims made by Woodward in his book, but also by Omarosa Manigault in her book. Titled “I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration“, the letter painted offered a damning look at Trump in charge including…
- “…many of the senior officials in his own administration are working diligently from within to frustrate parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations.”
- “…the president continues to act in a manner that is detrimental to the health of our republic.”
- “The root of the problem is the president’s amorality. Anyone who works with him knows he is not moored to any discernible first principles that guide his decision making.”
- “Given the instability many witnessed, there were early whispers within the cabinet of invoking the 25th Amendment, which would start a complex process for removing the president.”
Not really much of a bombshell since many people have been saying some of the same things about Trump from the daily exposure of his tweets and news coverage. But that last quote about “whispers” of invoking the 25th Amendment was the nail in the coffin that caused Trump to go nuclear…

And a day later, the White House looks like a reboot of the 1985 movie “Clue” with people guessing who dunnit…did Kellyanne Conway write the letter in the situation room with a smartphone or was it General Kelly in the Oval office on a laptop? As of this writing, about 20 administration officials have come out with that Shaggy song refrain it wasn’t me. One senator suggests making all senior officials undergo a lie detector test—wonder how much of our tax dollars that would cost?
Trump wants to make it a matter of National Security. It isn’t because as the term ‘Op Ed’ says it’s the writer’s opinion…no secret codes disclosed. Trump also asked “TREASON?” It’s not because treason is a crime committed against the country…this was just one person’s opinion about what a sorry, unhinged President Trump is. Another Trump-plainer argues the letter undermines institutions and breaks norms…but isn’t that what Trump is doing and the reason his base supports him so fervently?
At the end of the day, does it really matter who wrote the letter? Seriously…does it? It’s not like the letter brought anything to light about 60% of the country (according to the latest presidential approval polls) hadn’t already concluded. Senator Bob Corker answers the matter best querying “Who wouldn’t have written that letter?”
Trump is doing what all drama queens do—playing the victim because he thinks one of his employees is out to get him. That’s the problem, Trump’s perspective—they’re not your employees, they work for us-you remember “We the people”.
It’s more deflection because the letter just like Woodward’s and Omarosa’s books bring up the real issues we should be focused upon…Is Trump mentally fit for this office? That’s pretty serious and the people we elected to office should be focused on what the letter and others around the White House are saying about Trump’s mental capacity instead of launching witch hunts to see who is saying it. This isn’t the time for party politics… Trump is named as an unindicted co-conspirator in crimes, now allegations about his mental capacity are called into question. Let’s not search for a messenger to destroy and kill the message of what that anonymous person is saying.
What do you think….is there something here to investigate? Is it time for congress to look at impeachment? Or is there really a deep state out to get Trump?
Now Senator Rand Paul
