What’s that up in the sky?! It’s a Black man cast as Superman?! It’s been the biggest news of the day in Hollywood and certainly on social media.
A long whispered rumor that actor Henry Cavill was ready to hang up the cape on the Superman role he’s inhabited since 2013 finally landed on the front page of entertainment news sites. The only news bigger than Henry Cavil no longer donning tights and the cape is speculation about who will be the next actor to put it on. Enter Jordan.
According to entertainment new site Deadline, “...Warner Bros. has been mulling a completely different direction with its Superman canon for some time, even considering casting Michael B. Jordan in the role down the road.”
Critics and fans sang Jordan’s praise for his role as the deliciously antagonistic Killmonger in the box office hit “Marvel’s Black Panther”. He did such a super job for Marvel Cinematic Universe that it put Jordan on the radar of execs over at the DC Extended Universe. Unlike Marvel, DCEU has been struggling to find its movie mojo which slipped through its fingers again with the failed “Justice League”. The studio is hoping Jason Momoa’s upcoming “Aquaman” is as big a hit for “Wonder Woman” which so far is their tent pole film.
News of Jordan as the next possible Superman travelled faster than a speeding bullet.
There were plenty of posts rejoicing over the possibility of Jordan as the next man of steel. There also just as many who hate it…
Michael B Jordan as Superman is quite possibly the worst idea I’ve ever heard of

If Michael B Jordan really gets the role of Superman I will never watch another D.C. movie again. That’s insane. People are so concerned with making things “racially equal” that they r ruining shit. Superman is not black. End of story. Imagine a white dude playing Blade? Like no.

Just like we saw with the “Idris Elba can’t be James Bond because he’s white ” arguments, people are once again upset about gender bending a role because they don’t want change.
All the anger and hate is extremely premature and nothing more than a rumor at this point. Think about it…DCEU is struggling to land another home run after it’s only major hit “Wonder Woman” when an actor whose got some of the Marvel mojo still on him from the previous bit hit for the MCU. Of course Jordan’s name would be thrown around in conversations.
And no need to get in a racist rant about a White man or a Black man to play a COMIC BOOK CHARACTER(yeah, I’m yelling). These are fictitious characters…people didn’t get this upset when John Legend landed the lead role in “Jesus Christ Superstar”. There are plenty of real world racial problems that should concentrate on instead of getting in an Twitter battle about who should play a character that isn’t real.
